What is happening with the Tax Credit?

The U.S. Senate will be voting on an amendment this week that would extend the first-time homebuyer tax credit.

NAR is supporting the Dodd-Lieberman-Isakson amendment because this amendment will:

--Provide the $8,000 tax credit to any buyer (not just first time)
--Set income limits at $150,000/$300,000 for single/married buyers
--Make the credit available until June 30, 2010

NAR's Legislative talking points on the Dodd-Lieberman-Isakson Amendment $8,000 Homebuyer Tax Credit also are attached for your use.

NAR is asking for your help in generating phone calls from Arizona REALTORS to the offices of Senator McCain and Senator Kyl in Washington, DC.

Please request to speak to each Senator's Tax Legislative Assistant and ask them to support the Dodd-Lieberman-Isakson amendment. We need to generate as many calls as quickly as possible.

Tax Credit Extension and Expansion

Senate leaders of both parties and key Senate Finance Committee members and
staff, and tax credit sponsors Dodd-Lieberman-Isakson have agreed on
extending and expanding the housing tax credit.

However, there is no agreement on how to attach this tax credit to the
pending Unemployment Insurance bill, or whether to offer the tax credit
agreement on another bill, or whether to bring the agreement to the Senate
floor and vote upon it as a separate, stand alone bill.

And after Senate action, the tax credit must go to the House of
Representatives for action.

REALTORS® should keep responding to our Call For Action by calling and
writing their members of congress to support the tax credit extension.

The Senate just voted  98-0   to pass the Tax Credit [within the Unemployment Bill].

It now goes to the House.  Expect Democratic leadership to place the bill on a fast track for passage on Thursday.

It could get to the President on Friday.

FLAGSTAFF REAL ESTATE NEWS UPDATE:

We are VERY excited to report that Congress has answered our call to extend and expand the homebuyer tax credit!

Both the House and the Senate have passed an unemployment insurance bill, which includes an amendment that expands and extends the tax credit.  That bill will be sent to President Obama for his signature in the next day or so.

I have recorded a special edition of my President’s Podcast, with details on the new tax credit and when it takes effect.  Please take just a couple of minutes to listen.

Why are they holding back Flagstaff home foreclosures?

Why saturate the market and drive down the price of the average home?

Great Questions to be asked.

The Trends in the foreclosure market tend to be the same. A very few areas
have been affected by home foreclosures.
